Short Profile:

As a member of the Adaptation and Social Learning department, Ian is a research assistant on the OLAMUR project where he studies the governance of multi-use, offshore wind energy and low trophic aquaculture production sites in the Baltic and North Seas. After completing his MSc in Integrated Natural Resource Management at Humboldt Universität, Ian will continue working with the OLAMUR project as a PhD student. Ian applies qualitative methods like Ostrom’s Institutional Analysis and Development Framework to study complex social ecological systems. He has produced academic work on cooperative organizations, climate governance in small island developing states and international environmental governance regimes.

Before his Master’s studies and joining the ASL team at the Global Climate Forum, Ian worked in environmental social governance for a large, publicly-traded American corporation where he focused on improving supply chain efficiencies, reducing operational waste and transitioning to renewable energy. Ian also has experience working as a communications educator at a marine science research institute in The Bahamas and he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Columbia University in New York City.
