Short Profile:
Sebastiano Bacca is a doctoral researcher at the Global Climate Forum (GCF) and a PhD candidate in Resource Economics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His research explores the socio-economic impacts of sea-level rise and advances innovative global strategies for coastal adaptation. By integrating nature-based solutions with traditional infrastructure, he employs rigorous economic modeling, econometrics and environmental valuation techniques within the state-of-the-art DIVA modeling framework. His contributions are integral to the European Horizon 2020 projects DECIPHER, ACCREU and REST-COAST.

He holds a master’s degree in Environmental Economics from Università degli Studi di Ferrara, where he was recognized for academic excellence. Before pursuing his doctoral studies, Sebastiano was actively involved with the Núcleo de Investigação em Políticas Económicas e Empresariais (NIPE), specializing in the economic valuation of coastal and marine ecosystem services. His interdisciplinary approach combines a strong foundation in environmental economics, applied econometrics, optimization methods and economic modeling with policy-relevant research.

Sebastiano’s research interests center on integrating biophysical and economic models to assess how climate change and adaptation strategies influence economic growth, natural resource dynamics and broader socio-economic trends. His work not only advances academic understanding but also informs policy-making, equipping coastal communities with the tools to enhance resilience in the face of rising sea levels.

Current Projects: ACCREU, DECIPHER, REST-COAST, and DIVA
