DESCRIPTION:The presentation will explore the evolving world of money and p
 ayments to provide a thorough assessment of the transformation that is occ
 urring in global money and payment systems today. The payment system is es
 sential to the functioning of a market economy. The more complex the econo
 my becomes\, including a large global network\, and the more diverse and s
 ophisticated people’s lifestyles\, consumption habits and business pract
 ices become\, the greater the demands on the payment system to provide fas
 t\, convenient and secure transaction facilities. The world of money and p
 ayments is changing rapidly. Technological innovation\, competition\, regu
 lation\, and central bank policies are the main drivers. The daily lives o
 f citizens are being affected both noticeably and imperceptibly. Noticeabl
 y\, because new conveniences and opportunities arise. Often imperceptibly 
 as new risks accompany transformative innovations\, both for users and for
  policy makers operating in this rapidly changing environment.\n\nBio:\n\n
 Jörg Bibow is a professor of economics at Skidmore College. His main rese
 arch areas are international finance and European integration\, as well as
  international trade and development and the history of economic thought. 
 A particular research focus is central banking and financial systems and t
 he effects of monetary policy on economic performance\, especially the mon
 etary policies of the Bundesbank and the European Central Bank. This work 
 builds on his earlier research on the monetary thought of John Maynard Key
 nes. Bibow has lectured at the University of Cambridge\, University of Ham
 burg\, and Franklin University Switzerland on central banking and European
  integration\, and was a visiting scholar at the Levy Institute. He receiv
 ed a bachelor’s degree with honors in economics from the University of t
 he Witwatersrand\, a diplom-volkswirt from the University of Hamburg\, and
  MA and Ph.D. degrees in economics from the University of Cambridge.\n\n&n
